As this team's first writer, you'll develop user guides, administrator guides, quick starts, evaluation guides, use case scenarios, tutorials (written and video), demos and associated scripts, FAQs, answers to online forum questions, and training materials. The company's product helps data analysts find meaning in petabytes of raw data from multiple sources (social media, disparate databases, etc). It uses SQL and other languages as well as visual tools to analyze and format Big Data in Hadoop. Your deliverables will help (moderately technical) data analysts evaluate, learn, and use the product in a self-service sales and support model. You'll establish a style guide, incorporate social and web media into both the doc and training materials, create conceptual graphics, and output online help, PDF, and wiki content. Ideally, you're an articulate, passionate, hands-on technology expert who loves to work with innovative products in an unstructured environment with smart, committed colleagues " in other words, a software startup content-tamer. This will be full-time (40 hours/week), onsite work in Cupertino. Your compensation would include a generous salary, full insurance benefits, and pre-IPO stock options. Required: Experience documenting complex software for busy, moderately technical users Aptitude for working with cutting edge technology that's under development Understanding of some or all of these: server technology, web services, Microsoft Foundation Classes, C#, Java, APIs Working knowledge of FrameMaker, WebWorks, XMetaL, Word, Paint Shop Pro, Snagit, MediaWiki, Microsoft Project, bug-tracking tools, Perforce, and SourceSafe Experience with, or training in, social media and web media Sharable, relevant writing samples and reachable references Full-time availability Ability to work in Cupertino, CA (traveling at your own expense) Desired: Technical degree or coursework in computer science or engineering Knowledge of French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean Work experience with analytics, business intelligence (BI), and analytics Experience documenting APIs is not as important as the ability to write documentation on how to perform analytics and use analytic models. Later on they'll need API documentation, but this company's first priority is to help Data Analysts and Business Analysts use their product.
